Full Service Interior Design Process

1

Contact me via email and set up an informational call so we can talk about the details of your project and how I can help.

I can answer any questions about my process and we can determine if full service is right for you.

2

After you have determined you need full service interior design, we set up an initial meeting at your home or the project site. At this meeting I measure the space, take photographs, and discuss the scope of the project in depth with all of the decision makers. If the project is a new build, I’ll need a set of architectural plans. With this information, I return to my office and calculate a flat design fee and a furnishings investment (your budget).

3

We meet again so I can present my design service agreement with my design fee and furnishings investment estimate. At this meeting we can discuss the furnishings budget and make any necessary edits.

Once you approve the design service agreement and pay the first half of the flat design fee, the design process can begin.

Conceptual Design Phase - 2 months

During this phase I develop a conceptual design that helps to determine the aesthetic direction of the project. I create potential furniture layouts, a design concept board that will include ideas for furnishings, lighting, art, colors, textures, finishes and all that goes into creating a complete room. These ideas will be geared towards the agreed upon budget. We will meet onsite to review the design concept with plans, design boards and samples.

At this time I ask for you to take time to review the concept and submit any design revision requests within one week. After I receive the revision requests I will revise the concept design plans and present them to you again within two weeks.

5

With the revised concept plans agreed upon, we move into the Detailed Design Phase, which typically takes 2 months.

During this time I make final furnishings selections, obtain firm quotes with vendors and create detailed floor plans and elevations. We have a Detailed Design Meeting where all the final selections are presented with samples and tear sheets of furnishings along with a detailed proposal of all items for client approval. This proposal includes all pricing of furnishings along with taxes, freight, receiving and local delivery costs.

You will again have one week to submit revision requests and I will turn those revisions around in two weeks for final approval.

6

Once the furnishings proposal is approved and paid, I begin the Purchasing and Execution phase of the project. Orders are placed, deliveries are tracked and I deal with any issues along the way. During this time I will meet with the contractor and trades to consult on the design plans.

When the space is ready and the furnishings have been received locally, I schedule and oversee the installation of all furnishings, window treatments, carpeting, rugs, and other details to complete the project.

The timeline of this phase is dependent on the scope of the project, the contractor’s schedule and the lead times of furnishings.

Full service design projects involve a lot of planning and teamwork, especially when remodeling or new construction is involved. I recommend involving all team members from the beginning.
