Pattern and movement and color, oh my! MASS MoCA Part I

Last week we took a small road trip to North Adams, MA to explore MASS MoCA for the first time.  It is a gem in the already beautiful Berkshires.  The first exhibit we walked into was by Jason Middlebrook.  His My Landscape pieces are crazy awesome.  The wood planks are really exciting with their bright color combinations and precise lines created over the natural rings of the tree.  The dynamic pattern and angular lines were really set off by the background of the natural wood hues and curves that hinted at the life the tree once lived.
His color combinations and variations were exciting and mesmerizing, what a fantastic focal point these planks would make for any room.  And of course, since I’m always thinking of the furnishings I am hunting down for various projects, I wish I could say “Yes, and can it be 17″ high?  What an awesome coffee table that would make!”
